The newspaper headline “Dad Loses Kids Over Lobola Debt” graced the media a year ago. In this case (Knowledge Kgaugelo Majola v Gauteng Department of Health and Social Development; Jabulani Place Safety; Minister Safety Security;and Cynthia Mosia, number: 1786/11 (unreported), hereinafter “the case”) two toddlers were removed from care their father, applicant, ten days after burial mother. basis for removal was that father had not rendered an amount money outstanding towards ilobolo. toddlers’ mother died before could be settled. After removal, children initially placed in aunt later moved to state-care facility. social worker involved informed thefather would returned him unless he settled court ordered first second respondents return minor custody applicant. ruled conduct by police department services removing unlawful. It further furnish reasons why she should reported unprofessional conduct. This has triggered concerns about responsibility carried workers applying law, specifically law relating children, when executing theirduties. paper seeks consider work light highlighted above.
